A New Jersey based cigar manufacturer and National Cigar Store, a leading Iowa cigar retailer, are announcing an arrangement for National Cigar Store to carry the only Cuban cigars to be legally sold in the U.S. since the institution of trade sanctions in the early 1960's. The Cuban cigar has always been the cigar smoker's holy grail for flavor, for construction, for mystique, Cubans have always stood alone. We've all seen smokers risk substantial legal consequences and pay exorbitant prices over and over for the pleasures of a Cuban cigar. And every new cigar to come down the pike claims 'Cuban Style' or 'Cuban Flavor' or 'Cuban Heritage'. The new cigars, however, dubbed PINAR, enjoy the absolute distinction of being rolled with Cuban tobacco imported legally in the late 1950's, well before the embargo was put in place.

"The discovery of some of this tobacco (Rosado Corojo Pinar, from the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba) in a defunct factory building in Trenton is the stuff of legend." said Rafael (Rafe) Ramos, Vice President of the cigar's creator, " The research and authentication of its provenance, the decision to roll it ourselves rather than sell it to a larger producer, these were business matters" continued Ramos "but the true magic is all in the tobacco itself."

Although the tobacco is forty plus years old, they couldn't have been preserved and aged in any better conditions. From the tobacco to the actual rolling of the cigar they will not disapoint. The P3000 Pinar- After painstakingly sorting and classifying every single leaf, we combined several of the Cuban tobaccos (with an emphasis on Ligero for classic Cuban strength, despite the tobacco's age). The result, rolled 100% from Cuban leaf (filler, binder & wrapper) is the quintessential Cuban cigar. The flavor is deep, rich and complex, but with over 40 years of aging on the tobacco, it is also incredibly smooth and easy smoking. Compared to the original, crude PINARs, a richer, stronger Cuban blend, better Cuban tobacco, more Cuban flavor.

P3000 el FEROZ "the Ferocious One" - Amidst the 46,000 pounds of tobacco was one shipment of extremely spicy Cuban wrapper. This tobacco was shipped in barrels rather than bales (not uncommon at the time). As far as we can tell, these were actually sherry casks. The incredible spice of this wrapper was perfectly mellowed by the subtle hint of oak and sherry imparted by the barrels over nearly 50 years. EL FEROZ combines this wrapper with a double dose of pre-embargo ligero, to create the true powerhouse of the P3000.

P2000 Pinar - We took the same, perfectly maintained PINAR filler leaf, and put a beautiful, Ecuadoran binder and wrapper on it. As you know, nearly all of the leading non-cuban cigars use Ecuadoran wrappers, with good reason. The combination creates a sharper, more explosive tasting cigar, at a lower cost.

Pinar Habanitos - Of course, when you deal with 40+ year old tobacco, some of the leaf simply isn't perfect. It is rougher, perhaps a little crumbly, yet it is loaded with oils, and great Cuban flavor. We use this leaf, completely unblended, 100% Cuban, to create the low cost PINAR HABINITOS line of bundled & 10pack cigars.

P3000 Cuban Criollo - Long before corojo leaf from Honduras became all the rage; long before Corojo became the Cuban wrapper of choice in the 1960's, classic criollo was the mainstay of Cuban wrapper, for nearly 500 years. Nearly all cigar tobaccos grown in the Americas are derivative of that particular seed.
